Monday, March 10th / Sub Plans

Today you will be creating an "interactive drawing"!

Look at Alex Solis' work by using the link below....
http://www.regrit.com/tag/interactive-drawing/

interactive |ˌintərˈaktiv|
adjective(of two people or things) influencing or having an effect on each other
In your interactive drawing the image you create is going to interact with a real object or you!
Step 1: Draw an image of anything that you would like. Make sure that it will interact within a photograph with your fingers, you, or another object. For the drawing you can use a photograph, your imagination, a computer reference or magazine reference. COME UP WITH YOUR OWN ORIGINAL IDEA! DO NOT COPY ANOTHER ARTISTS IDEA!!!!
Step 2: Draw the image or images in pencil. Use only line and value. We can ink them tomorrow!
Step 3: *When I return on Tuesday* We will set up your drawing with you or an object and photograph the interaction. OR you may photograph the images separately and then use Photoshop to make them interact in a separate printed image!
Things to know:NO TALKING TODAY! NO ASSISTANCE FROM OTHERS! NO GROUP WORK!The blank white paper is on top of the radio next to the phone. :) or use your sketchbook. Please work hard all period and if you finish one drawing, start another! On Tuesday we will start photographing these images interacting, so if you aren't finished on Tuesday you will have zero hall.EVERYONE (all art levels) WILL BE CREATING AN INTERACTIVE DRAWING!**Gregorio and Valentina may work on their projects for their art contest! Katherine, Savannah, Jordain, Celeste, Elisha, and April may work on revised sketches for their VANS designs.Stay off of your phones and messaging devices! You may listen to your own music with headphones... but don't waste time switching songs!

Tuesday, February 18th / Sub Assignment

Hey guys, sorry I am absent today! I am headed home from the San Antonio Stock Show...
Please use the whole period for this assignment. You may listen to your own music with headphones only. Once drawing you must not have your laptop all of the way open. NO MESSAGING! I will be giving you all a sub grade and your logo will be a few grades for creativity, composition, and completion.

ALL of you will be doing the following "Sketchbook" Assignment:
(Bryson, Catie, Robert, and Jesse may be working on their VASE contest projects if needed)
The sketchbooks are by my closet on the third shelf. If you do not have your sketchbook, use white copy paper please. Pencil only on these designs for now! DRAW LIGHTLY!!! We will add ink when I return.

"Logo Design"
Use your name or initials to create a logo for yourself. The logo should say something about you or what you like. If you play sports, how might your logo represent the sport you play? If you enjoy a certain style of music, how might you use your name or initials to represent that music? (Daily Warm- Ups, Shari McMahon)

If you are unsure of what a logo is, "Google" examples and check out the Ralls Centennial Logo on the photo wall. Also look up the definition of what a "Logo" is!

Start by sketching out your logo ideas and think carefully about the composition. Make sure you are considering the elements and principles of design. What is the logo's emphasis? Is the logo balanced? Does your logo have a full value scale?

I would like for the final logo to at least be the size of your hand or larger when drawn. I do not want you to add color to these logos.

Best Wishes,
Mrs. Stewart
Comment or email me if you have any questions!

Today...

Art 1

Materials:
Wood, face pictures, & pencils

Procedures:
You have already photographed yourself from 5 different views, edited the images, and printed them. You should have drawn lines on your face photo that will help plot points and align your face for the drawing portion. At this point you have also sanded your board and have prepared it for drawing. If you haven't done these steps you will need to finish them today or you will have zero hall!

Today you will be drawing the vertical and horizontal axis onto the board. Once drawn you will measure out where your eyes will fall on the horizontal axis. Then you will be drawing your eyes. The next step will be to drop plummet lines from your tear ducts to find the position of your nose.

Once you have your nose drawn you may use the rest of the period to work on your Vans shoe design or your SHAC t-shirt design.

Evaluation:
Axis check point grade.
On Friday you must have your shoe and t-shirt turned in to avoid intervention time.

Art 2-4

Materials:

Procedures:
Today you may choose to work on any of your three projects that are currently in progress.
1. Vans Shoe Design
2. SHAC T-shirt Design

Step 1:  Finder- Open PhotoBooth
Step 2:  Take 5 photos of your face close up. You need the right and left profile view. You will need the right and left 3/4 view, and a front view. Basically mug shots... Step 3:  Export the 5 images into iPhoto
Step 4:  Edit the images into Black and White.
Step 5:  Crop the images tight to have very little negative space around your head.
Step 6:  Open "Word"
Step 7:  Import all 5 images to the document
Step 8:  The front view must be on a full page alone and leave margins all around. Only enlarge from the corners! Do not stretch your face!!

Holiday Fun!

Over the break Art 2-4 will be creating a Cubism - Zentangle of their faces. The steps and examples follow...

2. Print both images to the black and white printer.
3.

Art Prints

"In Cubist artwork, objects are analyzed, broken up and reassembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context.[3]"

Another Sub Yet Again!!! So Sorry!

So today and possibly tomorrow you will have another sub... I am so sorry that I keep leaving you all and I feel terrible about it! My Momma isn't doing very well this time. She has been in the hospital since Tuesday night and I have been staying with her throughout the holiday. We are looking into moving her into a care facility either today or tomorrow for her Alzheimer's and other issues. I am very appreciative of all of your support, thoughts, and prayers! You all mean a lot to me and I am sorry that I cannot be there to teach you!!

This assignment is for all of you! (Art 1-4) This project will be several major grades and will include a presentation on Friday or Monday.

Assignment:

1. Choose a favorite artist! It can be a contemporary artist, a famous artist from long ago, any artist that creates artwork that you enjoy and that you can find tons of information about. These artists can create sculptures, paintings, graffiti, props, portraiture, animation, comics... this is your choice!

2. Research this artist and get me all kinds of facts about them. Include stuff like... where they are from; when they were born; what kind of education they had; what type of work they create; what type of style or movement that they are or were a part of; anything of interest would be great! I love strange facts!! Include their most popular and your most favorite artwork created by your artist.

3. Choose the way you would like to present your information. You can use Prezi, iMovie, Keynote, or Powerpoint. BE CREATIVE!!! I want you to include transitions, facts, images, and even sound if you want to! If you choose to do your presentation in iMovie you can pre-record what you plan to say so that you don't have to speak in front of the class!! Prezi is awesome as well, "Google it!" Teach yourself... your mind is the limit. Mrs. Sedgwick or Mr. Salazar would be happy to help you get started. You can even imbed YouTube videos of the artists' interviews or of them creating their work.

4. DOCUMENT ALL OF YOUR RESOURCES!!! You cannot steal anything without

5. Have fun with this and find an artist that you are really interested in! Remember to keep images and facts school appropriate! Many artists and their work are not!!

Grading Rubric:

1. Sub Daily Grade - How much you accomplish and how hard you work for the sub.

2. Wednesday Check Point Daily Grade - You need all of your research done! If you aren't half way finished you will have zero hall on Wednesday!!

3. Creativity Daily Grade - How unique and creative your is your presentation?

4. Artist Information Test Grade - Do you give me plenty of information about your artist? Are there any interesting facts? Are there good artwork images included? Is there any video, interview, or other flare added to the presentation?

5. Documentation Grade - Have you credited all of your research sites and information? "Google Image" is NOT an appropriate source for documentation. You need to find original sources for your information.

6. Presentation Test Grade - How well did you present the information? This encompasses all of the research and your choice of presentation.

7. Completion Grade - Did you finish the project on time? 10 points off and zero hall for every day you are late!

Best wishes to you all!!! This is going to be an individual project just in case you were wondering!

Love, Mrs. Stewart

Another Sub Day

Art 1:

Thursday and Friday you will need to complete the other half of the face photo. Remember that faces are symmetrical. Look at the board for a review on proportions!! Please get a copy of the portrait from the sub! WRITE YOUR NAME AND PERIOD ON THE BACK!!! I do not have enough rulers at the moment for you all so use a piece of your sketchbook paper as a straight edge. You can also mark measurements on your scratch paper ruler that way. Make sure you also add the value that matches the photocopied half. Use blending to do this!! Make sure the eyes are one full eye width a part!

Art 2-4:

Work on your rubric checklist and get busy on your individual projects! If you are not working on your project you need to have out your sketchbook and draw your self-portrait. You may take a photo or find a photo of yourself on your computer.

Sub Information:

1. There is NO TALKING guys so don't try it!!! The sub has the ability to write you up and you will receive 10 points off of your grade for every time your name is written on the list.

2. You may listen to your own music, IF your laptop is half closed!!

3. Art 1 classes art 1st, 3rd, and 8th periods. Please make sure they each get a copy of the face. Have them turn it in at the end of the class period to the pink try. They can go through and get their drawing the next day. If they take them then they might loose it or get it all messed up! :)

4. Please write up any issues that you have! They will loose points on their grade!

Thank you all!!!
Love, Mrs. Stewart

Critique Day for ART1 and Work Day for ART2-4

Art 2-4

Today you need to check off your rubrics, change the deadline dates, and re-print them for me. Turn in a copy of your revised rubric to the pink tray. The new deadline is December 13th! Your completed project is a major part of your semester final. Use your time wisely!

Art 1

Today you will be critiquing the art in the hallway. (THERE IS NO TALKING!!!) You need to choose 5 of your classmates' projects to complete the critiques over. Use the handout that is on my desk! There is a list of elements and principles as well as a color chart in the hall on the wall next to my door. Use them as references and you may use your notes. When you finish, turn in your critique to the pink box on my desk. Make sure your name is on it and that you do not just write one-word answers. This is a test grade!

EX: (REMEMBER TO USE ONLY PROJECTS FROM YOUR CLASSMATES!!!)
1. Samuel
Art Description: Red, Yellow, Blue, Superman and Diamonds
Color Scheme: Primary / Triadic
Elements Used: Shape - diamond, Form - diamond, Space - red negative space,
Principles Used: Repetition of diamond shapes, Variety of sizes, Emphasis in center with hand and size
Ways to improve: The craftsmanship in the painting of the background and outlining the shapes could be better.
What did the artist do best?: The artist's use of repetition and color helped emphasis the relationship between Superman and the diamond shape. It was a very creative idea and there are no others like it.

Sorry I am out...

I have had a family emergency today and I am very sorry that I am out!
You ALL know what you did to be doing to finish your projects!!

All Art 1 students need to be finishing your watercolor paintings!!! we are planning to have a critique for those tomorrow! If you would like to add black ink, the pens are in the top drawer of the tool cabinet. Those cutting on mat boards... the projects are also in that cabinet and the cutting board is in the top drawer as well. The exacto blades are in the silver drawer in the shelf behind my desk. (You all know this!) Once you finish, and for those who already have, I expect you all to free draw in your sketchbooks. If you cannot figure out something to draw please make zentangles.

All Art 2-4 students need to be working on their major projects! You all have rubrics made and know what to do! If you have no clue what to do then please draw a face drawing in your sketchbook!

Best wishes today!!!
