Another Sub Day
Art 1:
Thursday and Friday you will need to complete the other half of the face photo. Remember that faces are symmetrical. Look at the board for a review on proportions!! Please get a copy of the portrait from the sub! WRITE YOUR NAME AND PERIOD ON THE BACK!!! I do not have enough rulers at the moment for you all so use a piece of your sketchbook paper as a straight edge. You can also mark measurements on your scratch paper ruler that way. Make sure you also add the value that matches the photocopied half. Use blending to do this!! Make sure the eyes are one full eye width a part!
Art 2-4:
Work on your rubric checklist and get busy on your individual projects! If you are not working on your project you need to have out your sketchbook and draw your self-portrait. You may take a photo or find a photo of yourself on your computer.
Sub Information:
1. There is NO TALKING guys so don't try it!!! The sub has the ability to write you up and you will receive 10 points off of your grade for every time your name is written on the list.
2. You may listen to your own music, IF your laptop is half closed!!
3. Art 1 classes art 1st, 3rd, and 8th periods. Please make sure they each get a copy of the face. Have them turn it in at the end of the class period to the pink try. They can go through and get their drawing the next day. If they take them then they might loose it or get it all messed up! :)
4. Please write up any issues that you have! They will loose points on their grade!
Thank you all!!!

Critique Day for ART1 and Work Day for ART2-4
Art 2-4
Today you need to check off your rubrics, change the deadline dates, and re-print them for me. Turn in a copy of your revised rubric to the pink tray. The new deadline is December 13th! Your completed project is a major part of your semester final. Use your time wisely!
Art 1
Today you will be critiquing the art in the hallway. (THERE IS NO TALKING!!!) You need to choose 5 of your classmates' projects to complete the critiques over. Use the handout that is on my desk! There is a list of elements and principles as well as a color chart in the hall on the wall next to my door. Use them as references and you may use your notes. When you finish, turn in your critique to the pink box on my desk. Make sure your name is on it and that you do not just write one-word answers. This is a test grade!
EX: (REMEMBER TO USE ONLY PROJECTS FROM YOUR CLASSMATES!!!)
1. Samuel
Art Description: Red, Yellow, Blue, Superman and Diamonds
Color Scheme: Primary / Triadic
Elements Used: Shape - diamond, Form - diamond, Space - red negative space,
Principles Used: Repetition of diamond shapes, Variety of sizes, Emphasis in center with hand and size
Ways to improve: The craftsmanship in the painting of the background and outlining the shapes could be better.
What did the artist do best?: The artist's use of repetition and color helped emphasis the relationship between Superman and the diamond shape. It was a very creative idea and there are no others like it.
Best Wishes, Mrs. Stewart

Sorry I am out...
I have had a family emergency today and I am very sorry that I am out!
You ALL know what you did to be doing to finish your projects!!
All Art 1 students need to be finishing your watercolor paintings!!! we are planning to have a critique for those tomorrow! If you would like to add black ink, the pens are in the top drawer of the tool cabinet. Those cutting on mat boards... the projects are also in that cabinet and the cutting board is in the top drawer as well. The exacto blades are in the silver drawer in the shelf behind my desk. (You all know this!) Once you finish, and for those who already have, I expect you all to free draw in your sketchbooks. If you cannot figure out something to draw please make zentangles.
All Art 2-4 students need to be working on their major projects! You all have rubrics made and know what to do! If you have no clue what to do then please draw a face drawing in your sketchbook!
Best wishes today!!!

TEST GRADE!!!
MAKE SURE YOU READ THE WHOLE BLOG POST BEFORE WRITING!!
Your assignment for Thursday and Friday is to type at least a one page paper using word or pages using 12 point font, with standard margins, and double spaced, about the work of art below. The paper will need to include 3 paragraphs at least.
http://benheine.deviantart.com/art/Pencil-Vs-Camera-57-266785740
Artist: Ben Heine
Title: Pencil vs Camera - 57
The first paragraph will be about what you know about the artwork. You will list and talk about the things that you see in the work. During this portion you will NOT include any conclusions that you are drawing. You will list only specific images. (For example: In the artwork there is a key. The key is above the person's chest.)
The second paragraph will be about what you infer about the artwork. This is where you can make up a story about what the art is about. What is the message that the artist is trying to send to the viewer. You can draw conclusion during this paragraph based on what you know. (check out the post from Wednesday for more information)
The third paragraph will be about the elements and principles that are being used in the artwork. You will discuss each element and principle that is being used. You must include what the dominant color scheme is and what the balance is within the artwork.
Elements:
Line, Shape, Form, Space, Color, Value, Texture
Principles:
Unity, Balance, Pattern, Variety, Repetition, Rhythm, Movement, Proportion, Emphasis
If you would like to add an additional paragraph, to make your paper long enough, you can write about what you think of the artist and his artwork.
Remember this assignment is a test grade and you have Thursday and Friday to complete it! None of you can afford to make a bad grade on this assignment. The sub will also be keeping a list of those who talk during the test as well as a list for those who cheat or distract others. This will result in a poor sub grade. You may listen to your music while you work! NO TALKING!!!
ALSO: If you would like to re-test on the Elements and Principles of Design you need to review old tests and old blog posts, as well as notes. I will give you a re-re-test on Monday during class. You can make up to an 80 on this test. Remember it is the last week for this six weeks and Friday is early release so use your time wisely. If those of you who work with Mrs. Kautz would like to go to her room to write you may do so.
Email me if you have any questions!! ahough@esc17.net

Test Prep for Tomorrow!!! & Work Day Today!!!!
Today we are going to review how to evaluate a work of art. You always start with identifying what you know. List all of the things that you know about the artwork. Include all of details and visual elements. During this portion do not draw any conclusions or guess what the art work is about.
know |nō|verb ( past knew |n(y)o͞o|; past participleknown |nōn| )1 [ with clause ] be aware of throughobservation, inquiry, or information
Next, you will infer, or draw conclusions based on what you know about the artwork. This is the portion where you make up a story about what the artist is trying to convey.
infer |inˈfər|
verb ( infers, inferring , inferred ) [ with obj. ]deduce or conclude (information) from evidence andreasoning rather than from explicit statements: [ withclause ] : from these facts we can infer that crime has been increasing.
Finally, you will look more closely at the artwork and decide what elements and principles of art arebeing used. Write about each one that is used and describe how it is used to enhance the artwork.
ELEMENTS OF ART: Line, Shape, Form, Value, Color, Texture, Space
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN: Balance, Unity, Movement, Pattern, Repetition, Variety, Emphasis
So for your test tomorrow, you will be writing a paper over a work of art that will be posted to theart blog. You will need to have 3 paragraphs for this paper. It should be at least one page!
1. The first paragraph deals with what you know only.
2. The next paragraph is based on your opinions and will include your interpretation what artwork is about.
3. The final paragraph is your critique on how the elements and principles were used.
This is a TEST GRADE and many of you need this grade to help you pass for the 6 weeks!!! You will have all period Thursday, Thursday night for homework, and Friday to complete this assignment, if needed.
